What is Equals-Y?
Project management: from idea to realisation
Equals-Y is our DNA. It is a method of creating predictability in the rapidly changing environment of projects. This method is based on four models.
Human
To create a predictable project environment, you need to keep people on board. Call it engagement. And not just the people of your organisation but those of all your key stakeholders. And we don’t just mean physically, but above all mentally and with a lot of enthusiasm. Our system gives people clear goals and a mandate to shape those goals. They can influence the strategy required to achieve this within clear boundaries. And that gives them the satisfaction they need as professionals within their mission to make a lasting commitment.
Interaction
To create a predictable project environment, people must feel connected and focused on the common goal. And you do that best when that goal is clear, when you see your role within that goal, when you have confidence that you are sharing that with the other people involved, and that everyone is doing what is expected of them. Good organisation and openness are needed for this. Only when all that is in place can you speak of interaction as a team. Forming that team is therefore central to our method.
Entrepreneurship
A project is not a straight path to the finish line. There are bumps and curves in the road. You have to see it and correct it as quickly as possible so that you are as close as possible to the straight line. Someone has to notice and report the problem. Someone has to involve the people who can solve the problem. Someone has to know how to do it, and someone has to make it happen. That is what we call entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is needed to create a predictable project environment.
Process
A process is the transformation of input into output. And that is what you do during a project. A project is a fractal process. When you zoom in on a project, you find that it is composed of other processes that have a similar form on a different scale. We have summarised this form in our process formula. To make a project environment predictable, you must focus on the transitions between these different processes. Because that is where unforeseen issues stand the best chance. And they make your process unpredictable.
The 4 models of Equals-Y influence each other. Therefore, we represent them as the four faces of a tetrahedron. That influence explains the complexity of the project environment.
